Dry Ridge Systems for Ridges & Hips
Traditional ridge and hip tiles are bedded in mortar, and over time that mortar cracks, shrinks and washes out. In Highland wind, loose ridge tiles can lift or slide, letting rain straight into the top of the roof. Rebedding helps for a while, but the mortar breaks down again sooner or later.
A dry ridge system replaces the mortar with a mechanical fixing. The old ridge tiles and bedding are taken off, a ridge batten or support is fitted along the ridge, and each tile is screwed or clipped down over a ventilated roll. Hips are treated the same way, so every ridge line is held mechanically.
Because nothing relies on mortar, there is no bedding to crack and less upkeep to plan for. The ventilated design also lets moist air escape from the roof space. We fit dry ridge systems across Inverness, Fort William and the Great Glen, starting with a FREE, no-obligation quote.
- No Mortar to Crack or Wash Out
- Ridge Tiles Mechanically Held
- Roof Space Ventilation
- Less Ongoing Upkeep

How a Dry Ridge System Is Fitted
- Step 1
Stripping the Old Ridge
The existing ridge and hip tiles are lifted, and the old mortar bedding is cleared from the top of the roof ready for the new system.
- Step 2
Fitting the Ridge Support
A batten or bracket system is fixed along the ridge and hips to give every ridge and hip tile a solid, mechanical fixing point.
- Step 3
Laying & Fixing the Tiles
A ventilated roll goes over the support, then the ridge tiles are screwed or clipped down and finished with end caps.
- Step 4
Checking the Finished Ridge
Each ridge and hip tile is checked to be firmly fixed. We then review the new dry ridge with you and confirm it is as agreed.
